The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors provides a document on author roles and responsibilities. This document answers the question of who should be counted as a co-author when preparing a manuscript.

Some journals are also asking authors to provide standard titles for crediting authors in a manuscript. The CRediT taxonomy offers a standard naming convention

Cell Press provides examples here: www.cell.com/pb/assets/raw/shared/guidelines/CRediT-taxonomy.pdf
