The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors provides a document on author roles and responsibilities. This document answers the question of who should be counted as a co-author when preparing a manuscript.
Some journals are also asking authors to provide standard titles for crediting authors in a manuscript. The CRediT taxonomy offers a standard naming convention.
