Yes. This is an important step. Many journal offices and publishers use iThenticate (or a similar tool) to check all submitted or accepted manuscripts for overlap with previously published text and require authors to address all concerns identified before publication can proceed. Our goal is to help authors avoid such concerns.

We use iThenticate to check all journal articles and book chapters unless the senior author requests that we omit this step. The resulting report will be used only by the editor to help the author avoid unintentional repetition of material. The report will be deleted after editing is completed, and no record of the findings will be kept (and the iThenticate system will not recognize your article if someone runs a new report).
