A systematic review cannot be conducted by one person. Many of the tasks in the systematic review process need to be performed independently by more than one person. Two people are required to:

  • screen and select studies
  • evaluate the quality of the studies
  • extract data
  • evaluate the quality of the evidence for each outcome

This minimizes bias and error and leads to high-quality reviews.

One person can perform more than one role but your team should include at least one expert on:

  • the systematic review process
  • database searching
  • the topic being researched
  • biostatics (if you're doing a meta-analysis)
  • writing
