The purpose of a systematic review is to deliver a meticulous summary of all the available primary research on a specific clinical research question.
They often investigate:

  • a particular type of therapy
  • prevention
  • harms
  • diagnostic test accuracy
  • economic analysis

If a systematic review finds enough high-quality evidence, it gives a recommendation that can guide clinical decision-making, delivery of care, and policy development.
