Yes!

We strongly recommend that you schedule grant editing in advance, especially if you’re submitting an NIH grant. Editing is usually in high demand before NIH deadlines. To schedule editing of a typical grant (around 20 single-spaced pages), please contact us at least 2 weeks before you plan to send us your proposal and at least 4 weeks before the deadline for submission to OSP (to allow us 1 week for editing and to allow yourself 1 week for revisions). If editing isn’t scheduled in advance, we can usually still edit your proposal, but we may not be able to return it as quickly as you would like, or we may not be able to provide a deep edit.

We typically return edited proposals in 5 working days of receipt. We can also do a preliminary review of your Specific Aims section only and return it in 3 days.

To schedule or request editing of a grant proposal, please email RML-Editing@mdanderson.org. When you email us, please supply the following information:

  • Name of principal investigator
  • Department of principal investigator
  • Title of proposal
  • Funding agency (e.g., NIH or Susan G. Komen for the Cure)
  • Type of proposal (e.g., R01, R21, postdoctoral fellowship research grant)
  • Deadline for submission of proposal to agency
  • If scheduling, date when proposal will be submitted for editing
  • URL for the proposal instructions
  • If the application was previously submitted but not funded, a copy of the reviewer comments from the previous submission
  • Direct costs
  • Number of years of funding requested
  • Phone number and/or email address at which we can reach you for questions
  • Name of editor to whom the proposal should be assigned (optional)

If you would like editing assistance on a multiproject grant (e.g., SPORE) or any grant consisting of multiple narrative sections, please contact us at least 3 months before the agency deadline to discuss an editing schedule and the scope of the work.
