Please note that only submission Method C requires the author or their delegate to submit a manuscript to the NIHMS system. Authors can determine which submission method is required for their manuscript by using the Determine Submission Method wizard.
Third-party Submitters can begin the submission process by depositing manuscript files into the National Institutes of Health Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) system, but they cannot complete the process. The Submitter is required to designate a Reviewer, who must be an author of the manuscript. The Reviewer is responsible for providing approvals of the files. The designated Reviewer will receive emails from the NIHMS system with detailed instructions on how to provide approvals. These approvals must be provided to complete the submission process.
Access NIHMS (Administrative Support Staff)
Use the same login method each time you access the NIHMS system. Manuscripts are linked to the account by which you accessed the system.
- Go to www.nihms.nih.gov/
- Select All Login Options
- Select more login options
- Search for and select MD Anderson
- The institution's Single Sign-On service will authenticate you and DUO will push a notification to your phone
- Open the notification and enter the 6-digit code displayed on your computer screen
- You will be routed back to the NIHMS system and you will be logged in
Begin the Submission Process
Before you begin, have the peer-reviewed accepted manuscript on hand. Be sure the manuscript is complete, including figures, tables, and supplementary materials. The NIHMS system will reject incomplete or inaccurate submissions.
- Click on Submit New Manuscript
- Populate the manuscript and journal titles by using one of the options provided (PubMed, DOI, or My Bibliography). This information can also be entered manually.
- In the next step, associate the appropriate funding support to the manuscript. If you do not know which award supported the manuscript, you can skip this step and leave it for the Reviewer to complete.
- In the next step, upload the manuscript files. Mark the checkbox certifying that you have uploaded all required files.
- In the next step, designate a Reviewer (it must be an author of the manuscript) and select the appropriate Embargo period. If you are unsure about the embargo period, check with your faculty member - the embargo period is outlined in the publication agreement. If this information cannot be learned from the faculty member, the 12-month period can be selected as the safest option.
- In the final step, read and agree to the Submission Statement.
The Reviewer will receive an email from the NIHMS system with detailed instructions about providing approvals.
